Knicks target, Russell Westbrook wants to get out of Houston

The Knicks have been linked to Rockets point guard Russell Westbrook this offseason, and now the All-Star point guard reportedly wants to be traded.

According to a report by The Athletic’s Shams Charania, the 32-year-old “wants to leave Houston”.

In his only season with the Rockets after coming to Houston in a deal that sent Chris Paul to Oklahoma City, Westbrook averaged 27.2 points, 7.9 rebounds and 7.0 assists. Pairing Westbrook with James Harden in the backcourt, the Rockets went 44-28 in the regular season, but fell to the Lakers in five games in the second round of the Western Conference playoffs.

SNY NBA insider Ian Begley reported in mid-October that the Knicks would “take a look” at a potential deal with Westbrook if the veteran was made available. It is worth noting that Westbrook, according to Begley’s sources, saw New York as a welcome landing spot last summer, when Oklahoma City was speaking to teams about potential swaps.

Begley also reported that “some agents representing the best free point guard agents” think the Knicks may be interested in trading for the former MVP.
