Knicks sharpshooter breaks team record for most wins in a single game

The New York Knicks defeated the Detroit Pistons by a score of 124-99 on Monday. The outcome shouldn’t surprise anyone given that Detroit has the worst record in the league and was without much of its roster, including Cade Cunningham. Fans at Madison Square Garden may not have witnessed the outcome of the game in question, but they did witness Donte DiVincenzo’s performance.

The 27-year-old DiVincenzo hit 11 3-pointers in the Knicks’ win. This is the most in a single game in team history. The six-year pro scored a total of 40 points, surpassing his previous career high of 38.

Before Donte DiVincenzo’s game on Monday, New York’s team record for threes made in a game had been 10. It was made by two Knicks players.

It was first accomplished by JR Smith on April 6, 2014. The effort came in a 102-91 loss to the Miami Heat. Named Sixth Man of the Year in 2012-13, Smith attempted 28 shots in that game. Twenty-two of those came from three-point territory and he made 10 of them.

Evan Fournier managed to match the previous team record on January 6, 2022. All ten made 3-pointers were needed in a tight 108-105 win over the Boston Celtics. Fournier scored 41 points and connected on ten threes on 14 attempts.

DiVincenzo managed to hit his eleventh three-pointer on his twentieth attempt. This isn’t the only team record DiVincenzo will break Fournier this season.
