According to sources, the Knicks will likely rely on free agency, which opens on Friday – two days after the draft – or the trade market, which opens on Monday to find the 2020-21 starting point guard.

Russell Westbrook, now that he is looking to leave Houston, and Chris Paul are trading chances. Jrue Holiday, also on the block, is not, as sources indicate he is looking to go to a title contender.

On the free-agent market, Toronto’s Fred VanVleet is by far the most stylish of the available point guards and the Knicks could have a $ 42 million cap.

Westbrook looks almost worth what he’ll do in the next three seasons: $ 41 million, $ 44 million and $ 47 million despite just turning 32.

He could cost the Knicks a chance to sign a big free agent in 2021 or 2022, but he allows the Knicks to establish credibility and accelerate their rebuilding.
