Knicks Rumors: JJ Reddick’s Pelicans trade can improve NY

For the New York Knicks, the Pelicans trade for JJ Reddick accomplishes several things they are trying to do in this offseason under new team president Leon Rose. All of this comes from SNY’s Ian Begley’s.

Let’s start with some of the most important points Begley made about Leon Rose when the Knicks announced his hiring. Rose opened her tenure in New York by saying she saw young RJ Barrett and Mitchell Robinson as franchise milestones.

Begley’s reports continued to suggest that Rose’s goal was to add shooters to their cornerstones and maintain the flexibility of the salary cap. JJ Redick and his expiring contract will do both for the New York Knicks.

Again, Redick is one of the 15 best shooters in NBA history and the addition of his 42 percent shots from the center will give Barrett and Robinson a much needed outlet on quick passes. Redick also makes sense the more we think of Tom Thibodeau.

Coach Tom Thibodeau likes to have veteran guys in his rotation who are smart basketball players. Redick fits perfectly into the lineage of veteran guards from Thibodeau squads like Kyle Korver and Kirk Hinrich. Reports also suggest Thibodeau wants to fire more 3s than he did on previous training stops, and Redick makes it happen.
