Knicks’ potential bench solution is being traded ahead of the deadline

The New York Knicks need another difference-maker to add to their second unit. The Knicks would also benefit from having another defender who can handle the forward slots. The franchise may not need to look any further than Charlotte Hornets forward Cody Martin.

Forbes’ Evan Sidery reported Tuesday afternoon that the Hornets are now looking to move on from Martin. With the Nevada product now on the trading block, the Knicks could end up reaping big benefits if they bring him in. Martin is a high-IQ, underused player who can shoot threes well, pull up jumpers and play solid on-ball defense.

The 29-year-old is averaging 8.6 points, 4.9 rebounds and 1.1 steals per game, while hitting 1.2 3-pointers in 26.2 minutes of play. While he isn’t a dynamic point guard, he would feed off the playmaking of Cam Payne and Miles McBride in the Knicks’ second unit.
