Knicks linked to Kentucky, Michael Kidd-Gilchrist is on the New York radar

Several players with ties to CAA and Kentucky have been linked to the Knicks in free agency. On Friday, New York Post’s Marc Berman reported that current CAA customer and former Wildcat Michael Kidd-Gilchrist is on the Knicks radar.

Signing the 27-year-old winger would be a profound move for the Knicks. While they need wings they can pull, acquiring Kidd-Gilchrist would be a low-cost move aimed at adding defensive intensity and leadership to the bench.

After being signed by the Hornets last season, he joined [drafted] in Dallas for the run-up to the playoffs, but saw limited action. In more than seven seasons with Charlotte, he averaged 8.6 points, 5.5 rebounds and 1.2 assists.

Kidd-Gilchrist has never been a three-point threat in his career and rarely even attempts a shot from outside the bow. Again, adding it would be a move to give new manager Tom Thibodeau a defensive player who can help young players learn good habits and provide opportunities for confrontation at key points during matches.

This isn’t the sexiest name given to the Knicks in free agency, but if you link the dots across Kentucky and CAA, it makes sense to believe it could eventually find its way to New York.
