Knicks, hypothetical trade with the Bulls

If the Bulls decide to blow it all up and start over and the Knicks fail to get their paws on Zach LaVine in a trade, Otto Porter Jr wouldn’t be the worst consolation prize.

Assuming Porter Jr returns from his back injury without complications, the Knicks should definitely see if the former Georgetown champion is available via trade.

The Bulls do this for a few reasons, largely due in part to their lack of playmaker depth. The team has no real and useful point guard on the roster.

The best facilitator on the team right now is probably Archdeacon Ryan, and that’s a trait too.

Reggie Bullock fills the depth of the Bulls’ wing, while Elfrid Payton and Austin Rivers could both split the time as bench ballhandlers.

Otto Porter Jr has a contract expiring, so instead of walking away in free will, the Bulls instead take a few pieces that could potentially hang around for a while and a round second pick to sweeten the pot.

Porter Jr will immediately begin Day 1 as the new Knicks forward. While he may not be the 18-point-a-game scorer he once was, what he brings with him is size and shot.

He stays at 6’8 on the wing, even if he is not normally advertised as a blocked defender, all defense really is, he is effort and would be forced to give it under Coach Thibs.

Porter Jr is also recovering 40% from 3, which would help RJ Barrett and Julius Randle do what they do best.

Finally, why not bring Luke Kornet back? He is about 8 feet tall and can shoot at 3. he would be a bench guy and could be flipped back to anyone who wants to or cut him.
