New York Knicks guard Miles McBride was already one of the most popular athletes to come out of West Virginia in recent years. With a made basket, the former Mountaineers star has further increased his approval rating at his alma mater.
McBride was a special guest on “The Pat McAfee Show” on Friday during ESPN’s live appearance on the West Virginia campus in Morgantown, WV.
During the live show, McAfee challenged McBride to shoot a long-range shot into a hoop positioned in a sea of fans. If the man they call “Deuce” made the shot, McAfee promised he would pay a student’s tuition.
You can imagine what happened next.
The hoop appeared to be at least 40 feet away from the barricade McBride was standing behind.
While that kind of shooting distance shouldn’t be a problem for an NBA player, it was a very different environment than McBride is used to. The hoop was also visibly shaking, given the mass of fans standing around it.
McAfee was true to his word. He shelled out $10,000 each for two students who showed up at 3 a.m. in anticipation of the live show. That certainly made it worthwhile for the fans!
