Julius Randle dominates but doesn’t get the respect of an opponent

Julius Randle’s monster game on Saturday wasn’t enough to earn an opponent’s respect.

New York Knicks star Randle exploded for 39 points on 13-of-23 shooting against the Washington Wizards. He was just two points shy of his season-high 41 as the Knicks cruised to a convincing 121-105 victory over the Wizards.

After the game, reporters asked Wizards forward Deni Avdija about Randle’s big outing and he decided to respond with a little shade.

“For me he’s not that hard to guard,” Avdija said of Randle. “He IS aggressive, he chooses his points and he is trying to score, honestly. A big guy, getting into the lane and getting fouled, that’s all.”

That’s a pretty strange shot to take on a player who just dropped a nearly 40 burger on your head. Randle also scored 22 points on 9-of-18 shooting in a 21-point win over the Wizards in November, so he seems especially difficult for them to guard (especially since Washington has a fairly undersized frontcourt).
