Former Knicks Bobby Portis now has a guaranteed place in the playoffs

The Knicks signed a two-year contract with Portis last season, except the second year was a team option and the franchise decided to give up on the big man after just one year. Theoretically, the 25-year-old should be a solid RPG. He’s 6’10 and shot 40% from the deep two years ago for the Washington Wizards. With the Knicks, Portis scored 10 points (45% from the field, 36% from three), plus 5 rebounds and 1.5 assists in 21 minutes per game.

As Portis was behind Taj Gibson and Mitchell Robinson in the depth chart, he often used his time on the floor to try to convince the coach that he should have received more minutes. Portis wasn’t necessarily bad, but it wasn’t joyful to see him try to be an offensive focus in the post.

Gone by the Knicks, Portis has joined Giannis Antetokounmpo at the Milwaukee Bucks, where he presumably will have a definite role to work in. At the very least, Portis is guaranteed for the playoffs this year, assuming there are no catastrophic injuries to Giannis or something.
