The last seasons of DeMarcus Cousins have been characterized by constant injuries. Cousins was supposed to be the third offensive option along with LeBron James and Anthony Davis, but clearly, because of his physical condition, things didn’t work out.
At present, the Lakers are favored to re-sign Cousins in free agency. His relationship with the franchise has been good – he has often been seen on the sidelines – and has continued his rehabilitation at the team facility after being released. On the field, however, he may not be the right choice for both sides, and another deductible remains at the window to understand what will happen.
The Knicks are chasing stars and want to turn the page after Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant fail to arrive. The new Knicks front office is expected to try to build for the future, but James Dolan will push for a big name or two. Cousins adapts to that bill and will be reachable without committing a part of the wage ceiling.
Cousins has good reputations, but the doubt comes when we talk about the field. From a basketball perspective, it’s a difficult choice to justify, even if a one-year low-cost deal carries minimal risk for a franchise.
