Can the fan-favorite former Knicks sharpshooter make a return to the court in 2026?

The New York Knicks have traded Donte DiVincenzo after just one season with the team. He and Julius Randle were sent to the Minnesota Timberwolves in exchange for Karl-Anthony Towns, and while the trade seems to have worked out well for New York, it hasn’t been the case for Minnesota.

DiVincenzo has really struggled this season coming off the bench for the Timberwolves. In 15 games this season, he’s averaging just 9.5 points and shooting 34.8 percent from the field and 32.4 percent from three, a huge decline from his season averages last year.

According to ClutchPoints’ Brett Siegel , DiVincenzo is now a potential trade target for contenders:

“Don DiVincenzo is being eyed as a possible trade candidate by several contenders around the league, sources said. While the Timberwolves like DiVincenzo’s skills, the 27-year-old combo guard wasn’t thrilled about coming off the bench after being traded,” Siegel wrote.

Now, bad news for Knicks fans who want him back this season. New York can’t reacquire a player they’ve traded in the same season, according to the league’s CBA. So the dream of bringing him back this year is dead.

However, the Knicks will have the option to trade him after this season concludes. New York could benefit from his return, given that they’re poor in terms of scoring off the bench, but there are some caveats to doing so.
