Becky Hammon could also interview for Knicks’ work

Becky Hammon has been linked to numerous coaching opportunities in recent years, and now another one may arise.

Newsday’s Steve Popper reported Wednesday that Hammon may be among the candidates for an interview for the head coach of the New York Knicks. SportsNet New York’s Ian Begley also listed Hammon as “a name to watch” for the position.

Former WNBA star Hammon has been an assistant to the San Antonio Spurs with Gregg Popovich since 2014. She became the first woman to interview for a position as head coach in the NBA when she did it with the Milwaukee Bucks in 2018 and she would have been the first female coach of the league.

43-year-old Hammon was also tied to the Knicks job when former head coach David Fizdale was fired for the first time, but it remains to be seen how legitimate his candidacy is this time under the team’s new front office regime.
