Greg Anthony thinks his son Cole would have embraced the Knicks project

Former NBA player Greg Anthony would be happy if his son, Cole Anthony, landed with the New York Knicks in the draft, but he believes the point guard’s prospect could succeed anywhere.

“Would it be great if he went to New York? He comes from there, he grew up there, he lives there. He hugs him and loves him,” Greg told Stefan Bondy of the New York Daily News. “But if he were somewhere else, he would feel the same way. It’s just basketball. He just wants to play and be a great player.”

The Knicks had the sixth worst record in the NBA last season, but have a nine percent chance of getting the # 1 pick, for Tankathon.

With Frank Ntilikina and Dennis Smith Jr. coming out of disappointing seasons, the team could definitely be looking for a new point guard in the next draft.

Anthony would make sense based on his lead, which made him the potential number 4 and best point guard in the 2019 recruiting class, according to 247Sports composite rankings. A knee injury limited him at times as a freshman in North Carolina, which slowed the ongoing hype in the NBA.

Jonathan Wasserman of Bleacher Report listed Anthony as the number 10 candidate in the class.

According to Bondy, Greg Anthony gave a tough assessment of his son’s lonely college season:

“He had a horrible year. He probably couldn’t have had a worse year, and he still scored 19 (points per game), 6 (rebounds) and 4 (assists). He didn’t shoot well, but he didn’t. the opportunities he would have liked. He learned a lot, he had a great experience there and where it ends – I know how he is wired, he will be a great player. So I’m not really worried, worried”.
